Why Should I Consider Liposuction?
It is true that diet and exercise are an important component of a healthy lifestyle. Eating well and regular exercise can and will change a person's appearance. We all know people; however, that no matter how much they diet and exercise, they cannot seem to lose fat in certain areas of their bodies. Liposuction solves this problem. Liposuction removes fat from the most cosmetically sensitive areas of a patient's body, allowing the surgeon to sculpt the perfect you!
What is Liposelection?
Liposelection is the latest in liposuction technology. Standard liposuction involves using a long cannula or tube to mechanically break up and suck out unwanted fat. Liposelection uses ultrasound technology to selectively liquefy unwanted fat while preserving the surrounding tissue. The melted fat is then sucked out using a small cannula. Because the fat is liquefied before being sucked out, there is less bruising after liposelection than there is after liposuction. More importantly, a much smoother result is produced with less small lumps and bumps. Dr. Obaid is a plastic surgeon who specializes in liposelection. He will be able to answer all of your questions about it.
Can Liposuction be Combined With Other Surgeries?
Liposuction can be performed at the same time as many other plastic surgery procedures. Dr. Obaid frequently combines liposuction with tummy tucks, breast lifts and breast augmentation.
What is the Recovery Phase Like?
Depending upon the amount of fat that is to be removed, you may be able to go home the same day of the surgery or following an overnight hospital stay. Patients should expect some mild bruising after the operation, along with a mild amount of discomfort, which will be well controlled with oral pain medicine. You will be up and walking the first night after surgery. Dr. Obaid will have you wear a surgical undergarment on the treated areas for 5 days. Dr. Obaid will see you one week after your surgery to make sure that you are healing well. There will be no painful stitches to remove. You will be feeling well and excited about your new figure!
Is Liposuction Permanent?
Liposuction permanently removes fat cells from the region where it is performed. It does not remove all the fat cells in a given area, however. As a result, if a patient experiences significant weight gain in the years following liposuction, there will be some reaccumulation of fat in the area.
Do I Need Liposuction or a Tummy Tuck?
Liposuction removes only fat from beneath the skin, but a tummy tuck (abdominoplasty) removes excess skin and fat. The decision on whether a patient needs a tummy tuck as opposed to liposuction rests on whether the patient has extra skin in addition to the unwanted fat. If there is unwanted loose skin as well, then a patient should have a tummy tuck or thigh lift in addition to the liposuction. During your one on one consultation with Dr. Obaid in his Southlake office, he will determine what is the best approach for you.
